Karl-Anthony Towns Hopped On The Pat Bev Podcast And Said Some Of The Craziest Shit You'll Ever Hear

Despite the NBA season being over, that doesn't mean the drama or the storylines stop. In fact, it's actually the opposite. Things are only going to ramp up from here. Whether you want to talk about Dame/Beal trade rumors, free agency, the Draft, the Nuggets championship parade, there's a bunch of stuff going on right now.

That also includes Karl-Anthony Towns saying some rather outrageous things while on The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone. Yet another example of why you should subscribe, and if you haven't seen the whole thing I highly recommend it if you're looking to kill some time today

For the sake of this blog, I want to focus on two things that were discussed.

OK, on the surface this feels pretty ridiculous. I don't think there is a single person on this planet, including Wolves fans that would suggest KAT is changing the game as if he's Steph Curry or something. How many players in the history of the NBA can you say "changed the game"? You can probably count them on one hand. I'm talking truly changed how the game is played. Sadly, I do not think KAT is on that list.

At the same time, I get what he's trying to maybe say/suggest. What is true is the fact that KAT could go down as quite possibly the greatest shooting big man/center in NBA history. That is not hyperbole either. He's a career 39.5% three point shooter, and has 4 separate seasons of at least 40% from deep, which is simply ridiculous for a center. KAT's 839 3PM are the most by any center in NBA history, with Brook Lopez coming in 2nd with 788, and given that KAT is about to enter his age 28 season, something tells me this isn't slowing down any time soon. 

So no, nobody will say KAT changed the game. Big men shooting 3s isn't really because of KAT. That change has happened simply because of how basketball as a whole has changed, specifically in the NBA. You need to be versatile to survive, and that's not something that started with KAT. He's just maybe the best big at adapting to that style of play. I think that's fair to say.

That's why for this comment, I sort of give him a pass. What came next though, yikes

Now this is where the true issue is. In no way shape or form is winning a Play In game better/more special/harder etc than WINNING AN NBA TITLE. Sure, it was a big moment for that team to make the playoffs after a 3 year absence post-Jimmy Butler, but they lost in the first round. KAT has still never won a playoff series in his career. While the Pat Bev celebration was legendary

What are we doing here KAT. Part of me feels like this is another instance of when NBA players would to a podcast with Taylor Rooks and ends up saying some of the wildest shit you'll ever hear. Suggesting that finishing 7th in the West and winning a Play In Game was more special than a team winning their first ever title after 47 years is beyond crazy.

As a Wolves fan, this would terrify me. That guy seems way too comfortable with the idea that winning a Play In game is enough. That's a franchise pillar player talking by the way. Do we think someone like Anthony Edwards would ever suggest that? I'm thinking no, and that mindset from KAT is probably near the top of the list of his issues. 

Given the rumors we're already hearing to star the summer

maybe the Wolves front office feels the same way? That this isn't a talent issue with KAT, it's a mentality thing and they may as well cash in on that asset.

Something tells me that episode is going to be worth watching as well
