The Royals Are Now 0-15 When Jordan Lyles Starts For Them This Season
There's bad....and then there is Jordan Lyles starting for your team bad.
The Kansas City Royals are currently 0-15 on the season when Jordan Lyles starts for them, it ain't pretty. They're 1-9 in their last 10 games and sit with a record of 19-53. Not great! But for some reason they just absolutely just lie down when Lyles starts. His record sits at 0-11, he's rocking a 6.72 ERA, has 62 Ks in 85.2 IP, a 1.284 WHIP, batters are hitting .243 against him and he's 0-5 with an 8.35 ERA on the road.
It's tough sledding for Lyles who has been a bit of a journeyman in his career. Now we knew the Royals would be bad this year, but I don't think anyone thought they'd have a pitcher lose his first 15 starts with the team, especially after Lyles was somewhat decent last season with Baltimore. You wouldn't confuse him for Roger Clemens or anything, but he got the job done in 2022. 2023 is a totally different story for Lyles and the Royals. He looked like he was going to get his first Royals W yesterday after going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs while leaving with a lead....but the Royals gonna Royal and they coughed it up late in Detroit. The hunt for Lyles first win as a Royal will have to wait until next start, is there a chance the team can get to 0-20 with him on the bump? A team starting 0-20 behind 1 pitcher may be harder than going 20-0.
