Naturally, Philly Had All The Mascots Be The First To Drive Across I-95 After It Collapsed Less Than 2 Weeks Ago

I'll be honest--there are times when I feel like Philly might just be a caricature of ourselves. We had a collapse of a major highway in a major city. All things considered, that's a pretty big deal. Maybe not a full blown disaster or tragedy, but certainly a large debacle.

So what does Philly do? How do we handle said debacle? Set up a livestream for everybody to watch the rebuild process, play the livestream on the jumbotron during the Phillies game

Have Wawa cater the rebuild.

And then bring all the mascots together to be the first to drive across the newly finished bridge.

Philadelphia has managed to achieve the perfect level of expected absurdity. There's not another city in the world who would handle a major transportation concern such as their highway literally crumbling to the ground, and then turn around and say to themselves "you know what would really make this thing pop off? If we got all the sports mascots involved". But for Philly, it was the only natural choice. It's to be expected. There can't be a major event to take place in this city without at least 2 or 3 of the mascots. And for an event as big as this? Fixing a collapsed highway in less than 2 weeks? Well that certainly calls for getting the whole gang (minus Wingston) together.

Personally I just wish they ran Gritty over with the firetruck (the costume, not the guy inside of Gritty), but that's just me. That piece of shit has ruined the Flyers. It's no coincidence that the organization went to complete shit as soon as he came around.

P.S. -- The fact that the Action News theme song wasn't actually playing in the background is the upset of the century here.

Go Birds.
