JJ Watt Is Joining The NFL Today Crew At CBS This Season

The NFL Today has been one of those staple shows before every Sunday on CBS, and now they're going to break in a living legend as part of the crew in JJ Watt. It'll be interesting to see the longtime face of the Houston Texans franchise get a shot in such a big spot. Nate Burleson, Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason are former players who have full-time seats. It often works out when ex-NFL stars get into media, because they bring an invaluable perspective that isn't replicable by someone who didn't actually play in the league.

My favorite parts about all this were Watt initially botching his announcement by not saying "CBS" in full. NOT A GOOD START, JJ!! Just kidding. But then, somebody had the gall to come after him and say CBS made an awful hire before Watt dunked all over his ass.

SUCK IT, ATHENS STEVE! Why would you come after JJ Watt like that?? Could probably count on two hands athletes nobody should ever even remotely fuck with and Watt would qualify for most normal-minded humans. He's the humanoid embodiment of a mountain. Six-foot-five, 288 pounds. I know it's easier to have "courage" on the Internet behind some dubious nickname and a cut-off torso for a profile photo, but still.

Some people think JJ Watt is corny or insincere. I don't really buy that. Haven't really heard him talk pure ball before for any extended amount of time. Looking forward to it.

While his appearances on CBS will be sparse as he tries to enjoy his first year of retirement at least a little, it'll still be dope to see Watt on the set. Also weird. I'm getting old. JJ Watt retiring is only making me feel creakier by the day. Three-time Defensive Player of the Year, five-time first-team All-Pro. Future Hall of Famer. If he applies the tireless work ethic that he had on the gridiron to this TV gig down the road, Watt should bring some awesome insight and ultimately crush it.
