The Yankees Pathetically Bend The Knee To Capitalism And Add A Disgusting Insurance Patch To Their Jersey
Sacrilegious. Disgusting. Hideous. Grotesque. All those words could be used to describe the Yankees swallowing their pride and welcoming in advertising patches on their jerseys.
While seeing the patch will surely become second nature in a few months just like the Nike logo did, it's something I never thought I'd set my eyes on. The Yankees organization is valued over $7 billion. They piss money. They don't need any company infiltrating their jersey like this in the form of a patch. Also a boring insurance company? I'm not saying any company's patch would make this better, but Starr Insurance? Fuck right off.
Sadly this is the state of the team with Hal Steinbrenner running the show. He runs the team like a business and not like a toy. Hal is so far removed from his father's son it's sad. George only cared about winning and felt the money would follow with championships. Hal cares more about turning over a profit year over year than being in the World Series.
I do wonder how much Starr Insurance is paying the Yankees for this patch. $100 million? $150 million? If you tell me this is being used to increase payroll further so they can add a star and get rid of guys like Josh Donaldson then I can forget about it. If it's just going to go into Hal's pockets then I won't stop puking.
Also consider this a progressive take, but if you're gonna give into advertising on the jerseys then allow players to grow beards. Hal will say he's never heard a player complain about the rule, but I guarantee they hate it. It's tradition yes, but if we're letting insurance patches on the Yankee pinstripe jersey then why stop there?
