CNN's HQ Trivia Documentary Is A WILD Ride That Includes a Giant Ego Battle At The Top And Death
CNN's HQ Trivia documentary was put on HBO Max recently, and I tossed it on out of pure boredom the other day - but it actually hooked me pretty quickly because of the unbelievable amount of disfunction that company was going through as they had the world's attention for those couple months in 2018.
I mean - I thought the "Barstool Difference" was crazy, but the HQ Difference had them go from frontpage news EVERY DAY to something most of you probably barely remember*.
For starters, the founders of HQ (who also founded Vine) seemed to absolutely hate each other. They needed third parties to mediate all of their conversations because they couldn't be cordial, and all new employees were given the heads up that they wouldn't be friendly with each other. I don't want to go on and spoil too much of the documentary here, but one of them wound up in an ego battle with host Scott Rogowsky (who wanted no part of said ego battle), and the other one wound up dead.
The way Scott Rogowsky's arc ended then shocked me more than anything; not in a bad way, but I just never could've predicted where he wound up in a million years. He seems like he's loving life, though, and was a guest on Macrodosing this year….
….so good for him! He got caught up in a whirlwind of fame that went away in a shockingly small amount of time, and that's gotta be super bizarre for anybody.
Anyway - if you need something to throw on to kill an hour this week, give the HQ Trivia doc a watch. It's not groundbreaking by any means, but it's pretty good. Especially if you were one of the maniacs playing that game (and cheating) every day.
*If you don't remember what HQ Trivia was, it was a trivia app/game show type thing that had people CAPTIVATED for a few weeks.
