The Arizona Diamondbacks Are In A Complete Free Fall

Goooood lord, what is happening in the desert? At one point this season the Diamondbacks were the top story in baseball along with the Orioles. Two young teams with promising youngsters leading the way. There were talks of Corbin Carroll winning MVP and Rookie Of The Year. They were going to run away with the NL West while the Dodgers were kind of floundering and the Padres were forgetting how to play baseball. Fast forward a few months and they went from 16 games above .500 to 57-57 and have lost 25 of their last 34 games. They're still only 2 back in the NL Wild Card race but man have they lost steam recently. They were a sexy playoff pick to start the season and then came out of the gates HOT and we figured they were going to sleepwalk into October, now that isn't the case.

They got a new closer at the trade deadline annnnnd haven't won since. 0-7 since trading for Paul Sewald, it's been a rough go for the snakes out there. They also haven't scored more than 4 runs since July 31st, and they haven't scored 5 or more runs since July 26th. Offense is officially in zombie mode. Couple that with Corbin Caroll ending the game on a GIDP last night where he didn't run out of the box because he thought it was a foul ball and you've just got everything going wrong for them.

Baseball is a long season. It's tough to keep sustained success for 162 games and Arizona is finding that out now. They'll be a good team soon, Gallen is incredible, Caroll has been fantastic, their lineup really isn't bad. They have some hairy guys out there, but right now you're seeing a team who wasn't supposed to be here coming back down to earth. Watch out for them next season I think, but it's been tough to watch the air come out of their sails after such a fantastic few months to the season. But with that extra wild card spot anything is possible, a run is still within reach for the snakes.

PS. The Dodgers were always going to win this division. Always.
