Nothing Gets The Boys All Jazzed Up Quite Like A Goalie Fight At Center Ice

Typically I'm pretty anti-fighting when it comes to beer league hockey. Not because I have anything against fighting, but I mean...it's beer league. You're playing at 10:30 at night on a random Wednesday in the summer against the same 6 teams every week. Everybody has to get to work the next morning and everybody is just looking to get out of there at a reasonable hour without any injuries. So there's nothing worse than the jackasses who have to ruin a good time by losing their shit because somebody slashed them back after they gave them a little chop to the ankles, and now we have a brawl on our hands.

Chirp all you want. Play a little greasy all you want. But the moment you start fighting in beer league, you're a smacked ass. However...I'm willing to make a total exemption for goalie fights at center ice. Because I don't care what level of hockey you're playing in--those always rule. Especially considering this one looked like it took place after the game was already over. So if you didn't feel like sticking around for the extra-curricular activities, you could just head to the locker room and get the showers going for everybody. But for a scrap like that? I don't know how you wouldn't want to sacrifice another hour of sleep before your 4am shift to catch that fight.

There's always just a little something special about a goalie fight. I think it's mostly because these two guys really don't have any interaction with each other during the game. It's not like they were going back-and-forth all night and then one of them decided to snap. They were on completely opposite ends of the ice all night. Which means the only reason they're fighting is for the rest of the boys. Unless these two are a couple of deranged psychopaths who have a long and troublesome history with one another, that fight right there was for the fellas. Most beer league teams have a hard enough time even finding a goalie to show up to play on a consistent basis, let alone show up and throw down. These guys just get it.
