Cody Rhodes Says 'The Last Jedi' Rules And 'Rogue One' Is His Least Favorite Star Wars Movie

Last week, I took a quick trip down to Philly to interview Cody Rhodes at Lincoln Financial Field - where WrestleMania 40 will go down on April 6th and 7th, 2024 - and we talked plenty about his career and pro wrestling in general for a while, but eventually the conversation diverted into a discussion about Star Wars (as it always does with us); and I think you'd be surprised to hear some of Cody's takes!

Cody's all time favorite Star Wars movie is 'The Empire Strikes Back', like many of us - but he then slots the HIGHLY controversial 'Last Jedi' in at #2, and he ranks 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' DEAD LAST!

If you know me/have been reading my stuff for a while, you know that I'm a staunch 'Last Jedi' supporter, so I was in heaven hearing someone else brave enough to say this take out loud.

I loved 'The Last Jedi' the first time I saw it (with Jeff D Lowe), I loved it when I went back and saw it in theaters an additional six times afterwards, and I still love it to this day. I'm WELL AWARE that not everybody else feels this way, but as Cody and I discussed in this interview, it's the one sequel that really feels like it took bold chances, pushed things forward in the saga, and didn't just lean on the past!

Sure, Princess Leia flying thru space still looks bizarre, and the casino subplot wasn't amazing, but between Kylo Ren killing Snoke and teaming up with Rey, the insane Holdo Maneuver, Yoda's return, and Luke's final stand - I'm still shocked when people tell me they feel like Rian Johnson ruined their childhood.

I know that's a war I'll never win, though, so let's move on and discuss Cody's take on 'Rogue One'….

'Rogue One' is the WORST Star Wars movie according to Cody Rhodes?!

He ranks it below 'The Phantom Menace' and 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Solo' and 'The Rise of Skywalker'?!

You've gotta be kidding me!

Cody even downplayed the final Darth Vader scene - one of the best sequences in the entire history of the franchise….

….and said they just threw it into the final fifteen minutes because the rest of the movie really needed it. He's out on the movie otherwise because "everybody dies" and he "already knows what's going on" - blasphemy!

Still tho, takes like this - no matter how wild - are why I love Star Wars and Star Wars fans. I really appreciate all of the differing opinions and the pure variety of takes out there, especially when it comes to ranking the movies. It's part of the reason a franchise like Star Wars has been around forever and will be around forever. It's just the best.
