Dillon Brooks Now Claiming He Had LeBron "Right Where He Wanted Him" In Their Playoff Series Is The Very Definition Of Peak Delusion
If there is one thing I absolutely despise doing, it's coming anywhere close to defending the Los Angeles Lakers or LeBron James. In fact, I'd rather do pretty much anything else in the world. At the same time, I am nothing if I am not fair. So when I see Dillon Brooks finally found the confidence to speak again after LeBron and the Lakers whooped that ass this past Spring, I feel like we need to tell the truth about what he actually said
At the end of the day, Dillon Brooks secured an $80M deal from the Rockets this summer after everyone was making jokes he was destined to play in China after his 10/3/1.8 on 31/23% shooting performance in their 6 game series loss to LA. So in that regard, he "won". But let's not forget that for a guy who prides himself on talking shit and being the villain, instead of owning up to his ass whooping, Brooks instead repeatedly chose to run and hide multiple times during that series
Just an incredibly weak showing. If you're brave enough to talk shit, be brave enough to face the music when things don't go your way.
Now a few months later, he feels brave enough to suggest that he had actually had LeBron right where he wanted him. As a reminder, LeBron averaged 22/11/5/1 on 48% shooting in that series. If that's having someone right where you want them, maybe your plan of action kind of stinks?
In terms of their individual matchup, thankfully we can pull those numbers as well. Here's how LeBron fared when being guarded by Dillon Brooks in their series matchup
Game 1: 15 points on 6-10 shooting
Game 2: 11 points on 5-8 shooting
Game 3: 7 points on 3-5 shooting
Game 4: 7 points on 3-4 shooting
Game 5: 4 points on 1-4 shooting
Game 6: 8 points on 4-5 shooting
So in total, 52 points on 22-36 shooting (61.1%).
Again, this is the problem with Dillon Brooks. He says shit and doesn't realize there is factual evidence that contradicts everything he says. He may feel like he had LeBron right where he wanted him and that he was shutting him down, but in reality here on planet Earth, LeBron was pretty much having his way with that matchup.
So aside from his comments not really making all that much sense, my advice to Dillon Brooks would be to just avoid talking about that series completely. The second you decided to dodge the media when things were happening you sort of lost all your credibility on the topic. If he felt like he had LeBron right where he wanted him, why didn't we hear about that back in April?
