Healthy Debate: Is It Very Cool Or Very Stupid For Your Quarterback To Fly In A Fighter Jet?

TMZ Sports- Jimmy Garoppolo took flight in a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 Fighting Falcon recently to prep for his first season as a Raider ... and his run in the jet was so intense -- he got up to speeds of 1,500 MPH!!

The new Las Vegas quarterback hit up Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada for the jaunt through the skies with the Thunderbirds ... and the ultra-experienced pilots wasted no time making sure he was ready to be put through the ringer.

At first, Wight toured Vegas somewhat slowly with a few tricks ... but then he hit the gas -- and put Jimmy into Mach 2, where 2,000 pounds of pressure were lurched onto the QB's frame.

"Let's go!" he yelled in the jet once they slowed back down. "That's nuts!"

Eventually, the guys made it safely to the ground ... where Garoppolo lauded the experience.

Healthy debate back! Let's take a look at Jimmy G flying in a fighter jet, which is without a doubt one of the coolest things on the planet. I think on the checklist of coolest things you can ever do, flying in a fighter jet is right up there with playing professional football. Ironically, the only people awarded the opportunity to fly in a fighter jet are people who play professional football. I don't know everything, but I do know they ain't lining up plumbers and construction workers (shoutout to Jersey Jerry's boys) to go fly as in a jet. There is no way on earth you can say anything but being massively jealous that Jimmy G hit Mach 2 in a jet.

On the other hand ... while everyone who isn't a Raiders fan is making Jimmy a hero, the people who actually root for the Raiders have a right to be LIVID. How many dumb sports injuries have we seen over the years to know that flying in a jet ...even with military guidance is something you just don't need to do. Also ... did he just do this ? He can't even take the stance that he did this in the off-season... he did this in the preseason. What are we doing here Jimmy G. You're job is to win football games not have your face peeled off in a confined space.

Again ... if given the opportunity, I would absolutely do what Jimmy G did. It's rich people shit, and it's cool people shit. As just a regular NFL fan I forgive him,but I see how the Raiders fans can be pissed off. If he had a brain in his head he would have got in front of the story or figured out a way to never let the tapes get out. Can't have your new team having ammo against you the minute things go wrong. "Of course he threw a pick. He's too busy flying in jets." Use your head Jimmy.
