The Angels Are A Fucking Joke And Now Giving Players Away

Let's stop being nice. The Los Angeles Angels are a fucking joke. They aren't just the worst run franchise in all of baseball, they are now in the running for the worst run franchise in professional sports. Arte Moreno is a lousy owner and Perry Minasian might be the worst GM I've ever seen. 

They took a very weak farm system and used it over the deadline to help a team that had no realistic shot at a playoff run. Now they are left with quite possibly the worst farm system I've ever seen and literally giving away all of these players to save one month of salaries. What are they doing with these moves? Trying to save money to keep Shohei Ohtani? Why would want to stay with this complete nightmare of a franchise? They have no present and an even worse future.

This player dump could give some teams a very real and unfair advantage as we head into the playoffs. Because they are being dumped before September 1st, they will be eligible for the playoffs. The way waivers work is it goes by reverse order of record. So if a team is a half game worse on Thursday than someone that may be competing for the same playoffs spot, that team 1/2 game back could get all of these players.

Matt Moore is a very good lefty reliever. Lucas Giolito can be a solid starting pitcher. Hunter Renfroe and Randall Grichuk can help any team with outfield depth. A commissioners job is to ensure competitive balance. This flies in the face of that. This Angels team has been run like a 8 year old playing The Show for the first time in franchise mode.

I am not an Angels fan. I love Ohtani and Mike Trout but the Angels mediocre last decade has had no serious effect on me personally. The past two years however has been such a bizarre trainwreck, it's infuriating to watch even from the sidelines. It's ne thing to waste the peaks of two of the greatest players of this generation. It's another to fuck up other teams that are on the playoff bubble.

So who gets these players? The worst teams that are still in the playoff chase are the Marlins (.504 winning percentage), Reds (.511) and Giants (.519). Any one of those teams could use those players and the crazy thing that one team could get ALL OF THEM.

If this was the plan all along, it makes the massive amount the traded away even more insane. They traded the only top 100 prospect in the farm system for Giolito. For six starts? That's fucking unbelievable. It's malpractice.

When you are an owner of an MLB team, you are a caretaker. One day you will be gone and the team and the fans that love that team will outlive you. It's you duty to put the team in the best possible position for not only the present but also the future. The fans are supposed to be emotional. That's their job. Arte Moreno and Perry Minasian needed to be the adults in the room and do the best thing for the franchise.

Instead, they acted like drunken sailors and fucked everything up. They will feel the pain of a superstar player leaving and a future full of 100 loss seasons. I'd normally say that's great and they deserve that. But the real people feeling the pain will be the ones who spend their hard earned money and time supporting a team run by idiots.

Angels fans deserve better. So do the team just better than the team that gets all of these players for nothing and cost someone a playoff appearance. Fuck Arte Moreno.
