Here Are All Of The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Netflix This Month. 'Band of Brothers', 'Jaws'
1. Band Of Brothers
The story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord to V-J Day.
You all know what it is so I don't gotta pitch you on one of the best miniseries ever made. The only thing surprising here is that it's coming to Netflix. I don't want to make a separate entry for it's sister series, The Pacific, but that is also worth a watch. Not in the same league but still good.
2. Jaws - 100/100
When an insatiable great white shark terrorizes the townspeople of Amity Island, the police chief, an oceanographer and a grizzled shark hunter seek to destroy the blood-thirsty beast.
Another thing I shouldn't have to pitch, Jaws is simply the best. Thrilling, scary, perfectly acted and revolutionary in a ton of ways. Beleive it or not, there weren't always summer blockbusters. In fact, studios were afraid to release movies in the season because they didn't think audiences would watch. Jaws singlehandedly changed that and invented an entire season dedicated to the most exciting movies of the year. Also, there is Jaws play running right now that is apparently incredible.
3. Fences - 90/100
In 1950s Pittsburgh, a frustrated African-American father struggles with the constraints of poverty, racism, and his own inner demons as he tries to raise a family.
This movie is based on a play and is one of my favorite film adaptations ever. The subject matter is obviously heavy but watching two elite-tier actors like Denzel and Viola Davis duke it out line-for-line is an absolute treat.
4. Matilda - 80/100
An extraordinarily intelligent young girl from a cruel and uncaring family discovers she possesses telekinetic powers and is sent off to a school headed by a tyrannical principal.
This is one of the more formative movies for me and I assume a lot of you growing up. The fear of the chokey and Trunchbull, the cheer watching Bruce eat that cake, knowing that you're also sooooo much smarter than your parents. It had it all. I'm not sure if this plays well for those of you with kids but I'd guess that it still works + has new stuff for you to enjoy as an adult.
5. Arrival - 94/100
Taking place after alien crafts land around the world, an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat.
One of the many great entries in Denis Villeneuve's flawless filmography. Great suspense, story building, acting and visual effects. While you wait for the studios to pay actors and writers a living wage so that Dune Part II can be released, give this a go.
