It Only Took One God Awful Performance For Nick Sirianni To Realize Preseason Might Matter

Preparation is key. You’d think that would be a phrase that Nick Sirianni would latch onto by now. The guy loves little one liners like that. He’s always so focused on perfecting the little details. And yet it took him one game too long to realize that maybe, just maybe, there’s a reason why NFL teams play preseason games.

At the end of the day, a win is a win. The Eagles are 1-0 and that’s all that really matters. They don’t ask how, they ask how many. And you don’t want to be playing your best ball in September, anyway.

But holy shit was that ugly, and holy shit was that performance avoidable if the starters would have just had a few drives in the preseason to shake off some of that Super Bowl rust.

Luckily Nick Sirianni isn’t nearly as arrogant as most head coaches in the NFL. It would be so easy for him to get a question about preseason and immediately throw a bitch fit at the media for even questioning his tactics. But he knows the results spoke for themselves, knows maybe he tried to get a little too cute this pre-season, and will reevaluate next year.

A new coordinator in both sides of the ball. Plenty of new guys stepping up into new roles. A shitty day of rain on the road against a great coach. The Eagles will figure it out sooner than later, and they’ll probably look a million times smoother on Thursday. But it sure as shit would have been nice to not have to hate this team for 45 minutes yesterday. Its time for the Eagles to become demons in the preseason.
