The last episode of Ashoka showed us exactly why Dave Filoni is the right guy to be in charge of the Star Wars universe.

Lets start with the micro. This episode featured one of the coolest dream/vision sequences that you will see on any medium PERIOD. The use of sound, combined with ambient noise and battle effects, was absolutely brilliant. The clones looked awesome and even ran like they did in the clone wars animated series. We got some great character building for Ashoka and a perfect setup for her future battles.

Now the Macro. This series just shows what makes Filoni so great. Just think of Ashoka as a character. She is a spunky teenage girl character introduced to an animated series for Star Wars, one of the most male-dominated fandoms there is. How the FUCK did he get that to work? It makes no sense, but it did. And Ashoka became the most beloved original character introduced to the franchise until Baby Yoda came around.

Now the journey of adapting the character for live action. This is something that almost always fails regardless of franchise. Filoni not only nails it, but also nails the castings of his other original characters from ‘Star Wars: Rebels’.

This is all to say just look at what he was able to do. Lucas does the prequel trilogy and fails on almost every original character he attempts. JJ/Johnson do the sequel franchise and do better than Lucas but still fail to leave an impression.

In the meantime, Filoni made the Clone Wars (The best pice of Star Wars content since the original trilogy at the time), Rebels, Mando and now Ashoka. All of which are huge successes. This cowboy hat wearing maniac should have free reign and ZERO red tape to do whatever he wants with this universe.
