Lane Kiffin Opened Alabama Week By Saying He Thinks The Crimson Tide Have Secretly Demoted Defensive Coordinator Kevin Steele And Have A New Coach Calling The Defense

Lane Kiffin is at it again, folks. Ahead of Ole Miss's Top 25 matchup with Alabama, Kiffin started the week with some mind games by saying publicly he believes his former boss Nick Saban has secretly swapped defensive coordinators just three games into the season.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think this might be brilliant whether it's true or not — at least assuming Kiffin actually knows the truth. If it's true, Kiffin has just told Saban he knows what's going on and now the Bama staff doesn't know what to do this week. If Kiffin just made it up, Saban now potentially thinks Kiffin is preparing for something he really isn't. This is The Art of War.

And regardless of whether it's true or not, Saban will certainly have to answer a question about it when he speaks with the media. No matter how you slice it, Kiffin has already won the first battle of the week.

If there was ever a time for Kiffin to beat Saban, it's this Saturday. Alabama's three quarterbacks are all varying degrees of trash. The Tide already have a loss and scored just 17 points against South Florida on Saturday as 34-point favorites. It seems like we may point to 2023 as the year Saban's reign truly came to an end — Alabama hasn't been the best team in the sport since 2020, but we've never seen the wheels come off like it seems like they could this year.

Saturday should be a fun one.
