Florida's Ricky Pearsall Just Made The Catch Of The Year In College Football

Snag. Absolute snag. I've written before about how some things in sports are always cool. The one-handed catch always fucks. It's arguably the highest display of athleticism that a wide receiver can show. I feel like the fastest way for a receiver to propel themselves to being a household name is to come down with a one-handed snag. I watch college football, but I'll be honest, I'd never heard of this guy. I looked at his numbers, and he's been a completely serviceable receiver over the last few years, but he put the whole world on notice with this insane catch.

There will obviously be clutcher catches in the college football world this year, but I don't know if we'll see a catch with this level of flash. I feel like OBJ set the standard for one-handed catches. His snag against the Cowboys in 2014 was an all-timer. It was a watershed moment weirdly. The football weird went, "holy shit, this is possible." The backhanded one-hander is the highest form of wide receiver greatness.

I was trying to sift through my Rolodex of memories, and I can't remember the last time a college receiver had a grab like this. I'm sure I'm leaving out a few, but I feel like defensive backs have bizarrely been responsible for some of the more memorable grabs of recent memory.

It's taken Florida a hot minute to get off the mat here. As of now, they're in a close game with Charlotte. But it seems like they finally found some stability at the scale positions. Pearsall is having a big game tonight. Regardless of what happens, he can brag about having the catch of the year in 2023.
