I Need Dave Portnoy To Weigh In On The Pizza Study That Says People Prefer Frozen Pizza To Actual Pizza Places
NY Post- How much pizza do you estimate you can eat? The average American reveals they eat enough pizza per year to stuff a full-sized suitcase with cheesy ‘za.
A state-by-state poll of 5,000 US adults found the average person can eat over half (five slices) of an entire pizza by themselves in a single sitting and eats pizza three times in any given month — an equivalent of 180 potential slices in a single year.
The study also revealed more Americans prefer frozen, ready-to-bake-at-home pizza (30%) than they do eating fresh pizza in a restaurant (26%) or even delivery pizza (16%). Perhaps that’s why nearly half (48%) prefer pizza hot and fresh out of the oven.
Of course, the nation’s fascination with pizza goes far: 74% would be satisfied eating it for any meal of the day and 69% actually like to eat it for breakfast. In fact, a quarter of people (25%) love pizza so much, they said they’d serve pizza at their wedding.
Pizza was also found to be the center of other celebrations and occasions, like Friday nights (64%), movie nights (64%), and graduations (57%).
It's been going pretty well here by staying in my lane, and I know I'm risking it all by having a hard take on the subject, as Dave has made a living judging pizzas, but. I felt I had to weigh in when I saw one particular line from this story. And that line is that people prefer ready to bake pizza than fresh pizza at a restaurant.
Wait what?
Let me give you that one more time ...
People prefer frozen pizza to getting it in the restaurant.
I cannot fathom this. Going to a pizzeria is a terrific experience. First off you get the food hot out of the oven like how pizza should be. You also get the element of conversation in the booth. You sit down with your buddies, your date, or your family and talk. You mention the movie you just saw, you break down the Mets lineup, you laugh, you talk, and you connect. Conversations in a pizza parlor have been keeping families together for decades.
Additionally, some of the best Pizza places are time machines that haven't got the memo to update. The same out of style menu board, the old plastic cups, everything is how you left it. True charm. Lastly, Pizza is meant to be eaten right away. Don't get me wrong , delivery is great but the minute you h ang up the phone to order (or click it on the app for all you youngbucks judging me reading this) you are then obsessed of the minute the pizza comes. Now you want to tell me you have to bust out a frozen pizza with icicles on it and wait for it to cook (which it hardly ever cooks perfectly) instead of actually going to a pizzeria? Batshit crazy.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that there is a whole big world outside of NYC, so I imagine maybe in Iowa, or Delaware, or Nebraska or Boise,ID it may be hard to enjoy great pizza we do like in the 5 boroughs, which could lead to wanting a frozen pizza instead of a restaurant. I also have to remember that in the middle of the world things are spaced out and the town pizza place may be 35 minutes away, but if this poll was taken in New York and ANYONE voted they rather have a frozen pizza than one from the actual pizzeria ... lock them up and throw away the key.
Need Dave to weigh in here.
