Here Are All Of The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Netflix This Month. 'Role Models', 'Dune'
1. Role Models
Two salesmen trash a company truck on an energy drink-fueled bender. Upon their arrest, the court gives them a choice: do hard time or spend 150 service hours with a mentorship program. After one day with the kids, however, jail doesn't look half bad.
I probably pump this movie too much but I really do think its unfair that this doesn't get talked about with the same reverence as Step Brothers and the other great comedies from that era. "Fuck you ms Daisy" always gets a laugh out of me.
2. Catch Me if You Can
A true story about Frank Abagnale Jr. who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars worth of checks as a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and legal prosecutor. An FBI agent makes it his mission to put him behind bars. But Frank not only eludes capture, he revels in the pursuit.
One of the best Spielberg movies and also some of the best work of both Leo and Tom Hanks careers. Did Frank Abagnale recently get outed as having lied about a lot of the stuff that went down? Sure, but who cares. Watching a smooth-talking conman outsmart the cops and banks will always have my eyeballs.
3. Dune
Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
You all know one o the biggest sci fi events of the last decade so I shouldn't have to pitch it. I liked Dune a lot but am also way more excited to see how it fits as part of a whole when the second movie comes out.
4. It Follows
After carefree teenager Jay sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh, for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her flee or defend herself.
Horror is such moneymaking genre that it's almost a victim of it's own success. They know they can pump out a dogshit movie that costs no money to make and it will still make a smooth $50 million. Every now and then, you get a horror movie that breaks that mold and does something unique and interesting. 'It Follows' is one of those movies.
5. American Made
The true story of pilot Barry Seal, who transported contraband for the CIA and the Medellin cartel in the 1980s.
This movie didn't get a ton of play when it came out and I'm not sure why. It's fun, interesting and has some great scenes like the one above. The true story is also worth a wiki rabbit hole.
