"If Everybody Could Do It, Then Everybody Would Do It" - Nick Sirianni Is Finally Letting It Hang On The Brotherly Shove Haters
Last night was a huge win for Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles. It seems like every week, we hear the same two conversations over and over again. The first is about how hard it is to win games in the National Football League, the second is about how the Eagles aren't "for real" because they're not beating times by enough points. Those are 100% conflicting statements, but that's just the way it works when people are constantly looking to discredit this Eagles team.
So last night Nick Sirianni and the Eagles put their nuts on the table and physically destroyed the Miami Dolphins on national television. There may have been a few minor hiccups along the way, but that was the type of win that leaves no doubt that this is a great football team. And Nick Sirianni wasted no time letting everyone know about it.
That's a win last night that is going to give us a wildly cocky Nick Sirianni for the rest of the season. And I'm sure that 31 other fanbases around the league will hate it, but that's the best version of Nick Sirianni we could possibly ask for. Because that means he's just being himself out there. And wildly cocky Nick Sirianni is here to let everyone know that they can shut their traps about the Brotherly Shove, because "if everybody could do it, then everybody would do it".
The Eagles were 4-for-4 on the Brotherly Shove last night. I'm sure some shit-for-brains idiots out there will still complain about that being a "cheat code", but there's no other team out there that can do what the Eagles do. And that final touchdown drive was an absolute masterclass.
The Eagles got the ball with 11:20 left in the 4th quarter after an interception from BPS. Up by 7, looking for a kill shot, but about a minute later it looked like they were about to hand the ball right back to Miami after a quick 3 and out. But that's when Nick Sirianni grabbed onto his nuts and remembered he has 11 dawgs out there who cannot be contained. Brotherly Shove on 4th and 1 from about their own 27 to keep the drive going. Brotherly Shove on 4th and inches from about their own 38 to keep the drive going. All that set up this moment where we saw one of the best passes of Jalen Hurts' career to AJ Brown making his weekly disgusting grab.
2 plays later the Eagles are in the end zone. They got the ball up 7 with a little over 11 minutes left in the game. They ended the drive up 14 after taking 6 and a half minutes off the clock. All because the Eagles are constantly able to keep their drives going when they get into 4th and 1 situations. That shit was masterful.
And listen. I get that people who aren't from Philly hate it. I'd hate it, too, if there was only one team out there who could run it to perfection constantly while nobody else in the league can figure out how to gain 1 yard. But if you're someone out there who is still convinced that the Brotherly Shove is a "cheat code", then you just don't know ball. Not pointing fingers here or anything.
Also, I finally figured out the reason why there's so much vitriol and blowback towards the Brotherly Shove. You figure that everybody today was brought up on SportsCenter and Top 10 Plays. Everybody was brought up in an era of every highlight ending up on social media. Everybody was brought up in an era of NFL RedZone and Fantasy Football shaping the way you watch the game. People don't appreciate and respect the intricacies and little details of the game anymore. The things that the Eagles take so much pride in, and allow them to be so dominant on this play. All people want are 50 yard bombs with 1-handed catches. If everybody could make an insane 1-handed grab with two defenders on them, then everybody would. And if everybody could execute the Brotherly Shove as effectively as the Eagles do, then everybody would.
