Today Is Exactly One Year Since 'Bedlam At The Bank' As The Phillies Again Try To Clinch A Spot In The World Series

Bedlam At The Bank.

Chills 100% of the time, every time. And the only thing better than this memory existing (besides a 2022 WS victory following the clip, of course) is the Phillies are basically in the same exact spot as last year. The Fightins are 1 win at home away from advancing the the World Series.

Incredible to think about. The Phillies are famously the losingest franchise in professional sports history. 11,241 total regular season loses. The Dodgers have played 1 less total game in their history...and it would take them over 10+ years of absolutely winless baseball (0-162 each season) to catch the Phillies in the loss column. That's, as they say in the biz, not fucking good. Which goes to show why moments like clinching the NL Pennant should be cherished and never taken for granted.

If they do it (and heaven help all of us if they don't), this would be only be the 9th World Series appearance by the Philadelphia Phillies in history - 1915 (L to Yankees), 1950 (Whiz Kids L to Yankees), 1980 (W over Royals), 1983 (L to Orioles), 1993 (Fuck Joe Carter), 2008 (W over Devil Rays), 2009 (L to Yankees, again), 2022 (L to Astros). They've existed since 1883. The modern World Series started in 1903. That's a ton of seasons that have ended before the Fall Classic.

Everyone had fun with house money last season, and that's all swell. But this year there's no exception - Championship or Failure. Enjoy the ride, for sure. Because times like these only come around once a generation or so in Philly, and that's if we're lucky.

Let's get it done tonight, celebrate, and get ready to turn this Red October into a Bloody November.

PS - Thanks for the pep talk, Torey!
