The Way It's Supposed To Be - Bill Walton Is Coming Back To The Maui Invitational, A Year After Idiots Decided To Keep Him Away From The Event
[Source] - Basketball great Bill Walton will continue his men’s college basketball analyst duties this season including joining Bilas with coverage at the Maui Invitational where ESPN’s coverage will highlight relief efforts and celebrate Maui. The Basketball Hall of Famer and former NBA MVP was the subject of this summer’s 30 for 30 installment, “The Luckiest Guy in the World,” telling the colorful story of a true sports original. Walton first joined ESPN in 2002 and returned in 2012.
This is how it's supposed to be. We didn't have Bill Walton on the call for the Maui Invitational last year. It was stupid and quite frankly wrong. Now, we're getting him back because Bill Walton deserves the Maui Invitational. We deserve Bill Walton at the Maui Invitational. I should note that it's not being played in Maui this year because of the wildfire disaster that happened there this year. They moved it to Honolulu for this season.
But what matters is we get Hawaii Bill Walton. It's a staple. It's like watching the Big 10 fuck up in March or the entire bar cheering for an upset. It's what we're supposed to have during college basketball. Not to mention it's a LOADED field. Seriously, we have Kansas, Gonzaga, Marquette, Purdue, Tennessee, UCLA, Syracuse and Chaminade. I low key love having Chaminade in the field just for the nostalgia and that brief hope they'll pull off an upset like they did against Virginia.
It's a tradition at this point. It's a tradition to have Bill Walton, likely high, ranting about god knows what to Dave Pasch. If it's 2am watching Syracuse/Gonzaga or something I don't want to listen about whatever random analyst had for dinner or whatever lame jokes those guys come up with. I want Walton ranting and making animal sounds.
This is what Feast Week is supposed to be. Good news is we get to wet the beak tonight with our own Barstool Invitational. Ho hum top-10 FAU vs hometown Loyola. Hurley's Arizona State vs an SEC team. Pretty good! Plus there's nothing like a Barstool sports event.
