There's Got To Be Better Ways To Spend Your Time Than This Florida Man Trying To Collect 1 Million Copies Of Titanic on VHS
UPI News - A Florida man has amassed a collection of 2,467 copies of 1997 film Titanic on VHS -- and he is aiming for 1 million.
The Largo-area man, identified as JD or TitanicFan97 on YouTube, said he scours thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales for VHS copies of the James Cameron film, and social media followers have mailed him tapes from all over the world.
"You can't escape this movie. Everyone had it, your grandma had it, your mom, your dad, whoever, someone in your family had this movie," JD told WFTS-TV.
JD said he is aiming to gather 1 million copies and earn an unsinkable world record for the largest collection of Titanic VHS tapes.
"I go to sleep thinking about Titanic, and I wake up thinking about Titanic," JD said.
First off, you have to respect the hustle, and the determination of this guy. Hobbies start off as a little thing and if you half ass it the weirder they are. However if you do go all in, the more people respect the hobby, even if it is absolute bizarre. And this is as bizarre as it gets. Absolutely bizarre. I do respect collecting things and even if it's something I wouldn't collect, when you see a collection of stamps or mugs or action figures you can't help but admire it. But as Feits once said, "there has to be a line."
That's where I take this cool little hobby and instead rule it as a complete waste of time. I'm sure people have every right to judge how I spend my time, hours watching Conference USA Basketball, trying to learn the Rodney Dangerfield dance from Caddyshack, and God knows what else that others would deem a complete waste of time. There has got to be better ways to spend your time than trying to collect 1 million VHS tapes of any kind, let alone all of the same VHS, and that one VHS being The Titanic. In no world, does collecting these tapes make any sense. Does he think he is going to make a profit on these ? Does he think there will be a future demand for these ? I'm just baffled that he thinks this is a good way to spend his time. Read a book, learn a skill, become fluent in a different language. Just an all time waste of time.
Finally, to say you want to collect a million of something when you only have 2,500 to start is almost one of those things where it's like "are you really even making a dent ? " Big time reach from this guy, and again such a waste of time. I can't fathom doing this. Go pick up a book pal.
