NFL Refs Are So Bad That A Head Coach Apparently Texted Mike Florio That It's 'Time For Owners To Act On Officiating'
I don't know why but reading this text is hilarious. Some head coach just texting Florio that refs are so bad they want owners to take over. The real question is what head coach? I could see maybe McVay firing it off to fuck with him. Zac Taylor or Doug Pederson with a preemptive complaint perhaps? Sean McDermott sneaky pick being on bye and wanting everyone to know.
Now we know what happened last night:
How you get these two calls wrong is beyond me. You're entire job as a ref is to simply make the correct calls. That's it. That's all you have to do. You miss a clear PI but then call a late hit because you want to protect quarterbacks. It makes no goddamn sense. This is far from the first 'refs are terrible' blog but it's true. This year it's being highlighted each week typically with a roughing the passer call. Shit, you had Al Michaels publicly begging to fight a ref on TNF because of how many flags were thrown. He became the rest of us, a fan. We are all sick of Goodell's league of flags and making it unwatchable. But we're all programmed to just tune in and scream about how football is awesome. We're not going anywhere, but we're going to complain.
I need to know what owners can really do here. I keep saying refs need to publicly address calls. No more hiding after games. Make them do press conferences. Make every ref a full time guy and train the fuck out of them all year. But we've reached the point where a man who runs PFT (not the real PFT we know and love) is publicly saying a head coach is begging for this.
