Was Journey Playing “Don’t Stop Believing” At Halftime The Reason For The Lions Meltdown And 49ers Comeback? Some People Are Claiming ‘Yes’

Sunday was quite a wild ride.

I complained as Detroit was down 3 trying to come back that I prayed they pulled it off - 1 because I love the city of Detroit and love the Lions story like everybody else, and 2- so we didn’t have to hear an entire week of experts and talking heads debating the Dan Campbell decisions.

Well here I am on Wednesday still talking about the game, so I’m guilty of the crime myself.

As we watched in shock as the Lions squandered a 3 score lead in the 2nd half, thanks to equal parts miracle plays, and boneheaded miscues (that 3rd and goal run after the warning still irks me guys, it irks me. But not as much as abandoning the run in the 2nd half after gashing SF the entire first half with it), many thought it was just the Lions being the Lions.

But was there more to it that we didn’t realize?

Earlier in the day I was provided one of My Top 5 Things I’m Mad of the week, care of CBS’s broadcast during the Ravens Chiefs game.

I had forgot that ever since the Patriots stopped hosting the AFC Championship on a yearly basis, the league started making a big deal out of the conference championship games and juicing up the halftime shows.

T-Pain is the fucking man.

And it sucks we weren’t able to watch his performance.

But who would be playing the NFC Championship halftime? I headed to the twitter.

Whoa. Journey?

Well they do technically hail from the Bay Area. But there is zero chance they play “Don’t Stop Believing” considering the first crowd chant of the song is “Born and raised in South Detroit”. Right?

aside from it being fictitious and geographically incorrect as there is no “south” part of Detroit (its downtown rests on the water and Canada is on the other side (shout out Windsor strip clubs), it would have been a very appropriate song to play for your team getting their shit pushed in like the Niners were the whole first half.

But this was Journey we were talking about.

Their catalog is incredible.

Surely they’d opt for one of their dozen of smash hits right?

“Faithfully”?

“Separate Ways”?

“Bo Sherrie”?

“Wheel In The Sky”?

Nope.

They went straight “Don’t Stop Believing” and the Asian dude who sounds exactly like Steve Perry face fucked Detroit by adlibbing over the famous line

That’s a voodoo spell if I’ve ever seen one.

Detroit never stood a chance after this. That field had a hex out on it by Journey and I refuse to believe otherwise.
