Killer Mike Was Arrested Immediately After Winning 3 Grammy's

Aside from Killer Mike's umbrella guy being in absolute hell, that impossibly grainy footage doesn't show us much. Apparently that video was taken moments after an alleged incident between Killer Mike and a Grammy's security guard or police officer, or someone trying to ID Killer Mike before walking into the venue. Rumor is Killer Mike threw a punch at whoever stopped him at the gate (can't confirm that) because he didn't recognize who Killer Mike was. He tried to deny him access and Mike didn't take kindly to the fact that he didn't know who he was.

I gotta be honest, I don't think I could have picked Killer Mike out of a lineup either. But regardless, following the incident, before the official arrest went down, the security/police ended up allowing Killer Mike into the event so he could proceed to win 3 GRAMMY'S.

He won Grammy's for Rap Album of the Year, Rap Song of the Year, and Rap Performance of the Year. I'm not as up to date on the rap scene as I once was. But if you would have told me in 2024 Killer Mike would be winning as many Grammy's as anyone, I would have said that's ridiculous. I could have sworn Killer Mike's prime was over a decade ago However, according to everybody who knows a damn about rap music, he 100% deserved it.

However as soon as he was done winning, he hit a small speed bump. The cops were waiting to arrest him for the incident that transpired before the show.

ET Online "On Sunday Feb. 4th just after 4pm a male adult was detained and handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court," the Los Angeles Police Department tells ET of the incident. "The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division."

The department went on to identify the suspect as 48-year-old Michael Render, Killer Mike's legal name, adding that the performer was "booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and has been released on zero bail."

Chick Hearn Court is located directly next to the Crypto.com Arena where the GRAMMY Awards took place on Sunday.

Following the ordeal, GRAMMY chief Harvey Mason Jr. was seen on the phone while huddled around Killer Mike's team. The Los Angeles Times reported that Killer Mike was released from police custody hours after he was retained.

Not the ideal end to what's arguably the greatest accomplishment of his career. But in the grand scheme of things, good for Killer Mike. Getting arrested following a triple Grammy win makes for a hell of a night. What a story for Killer Mike. Kind of an awesome way to get arrested if you ask me. If I'm looking for a silver lining here, I'd say that in this world of "all publicity is good publicity", if you have the means to be arrested and not have it impact your life whatsoever, especially in the rap game…that's the not the worst PR move.

It sounds like he didn't even miss the after party. At least based on these somewhat cryptic quotes he gave to the press following his release.

Breaking his silence on his arrest on Monday's episode of V-103's Big Tigger Morning Talk Show, Mike was clearly relishing in his victories.

"What had happened was?" one emcee asked Mike, clearly alluding to the arrest news.

"Ain't nothing had happened was. I won them GRAMMYs, we slide, we partied all night," Mike said, laughing.

He regularly tried to change the topic, saying, "We winners, that's it," and adding of his sharp style, "Didn't I look good?"

Finally, Mike conceded, "We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man."

Unfortunately for Mike, Taylor Swift announcing her new album and Miley Cyrus winning 2 Grammy's in the most preposterous haircut you've ever seen took the spotlight away from Killer Mikes special night. But aside from Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z saying, "some of you will get robbed tonight", and Tracy Chapman performing Fast Car for the first time in years, Killer Mike was the 5th biggest headline of the night. Without the arrest, he probably would have only been 7th or 8th most memorable moment. Job will done Mike.
