Nobody Does It Better Than The 49ers, Who Are Already Firing Up The Excuses Days Ahead Of The Super Bowl
CBS Sports -- The San Francisco 49ers landed in Las Vegas on Sunday, and they're trying to get their footing ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
Sources tell CBS Sports some 49ers staffers are not pleased with the practice field at UNLV, where the NFL designated the NFC champion practice during Super Bowl week. At issue, sources say, is the firmness of the natural grass the NFL has laid over UNLV's artificial turf ahead of the 49ers practicing there.
...Sources say this is not a health-and-safety issue as much as it's simply a preference issue. Sources say the current surface at UNLV meets all NFL, NFL Players Association and independent standards.
Life is all about learning from your mistakes. It's all about learning from your experiences and trying to do better the next time. For the San Francisco 49ers, last season was a disappointment. This is a team that waited until AFTER they got the shit kicked out of them in the NFC Championship Game to start making excuses for themselves. They waited until after all their quarterbacks were broken into a million pieces before they could come up with reasons for why their season ended with such a catastrophic loss.
They're not going to make the same mistake this season. They know better at this point. So instead of waiting until after they get curb stomped by the Chiefs on Sunday night to make excuses, they're getting out in front of it now. As the away team for this year's Super Bowl, the 49ers will be practicing at UNLV's facilities while the Chiefs get to use the Raiders' facilities for the week.
Bingo.
It's the perfect excuse for the 49ers. This team thrives when they can avoid any shred of accountability. The moment they can pass their shortcomings off onto the league, that's when this team really takes off. Last year it was the league's fault because they didn't allow them to carry another quarterback on the roster. This year it's the league's fault because they couldn't find another $75 million facility in Las Vegas for both teams to practice at during the week, and instead just left the 49ers to rot at a measly $35 million facility at UNLV.
Who does it better than the 9ers? Nobody. That's who.
