Eagles Sign All-World LB Devin White And The Haters Are Absolutely Furious
SOURCE - Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White is signing a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million with the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Eagles are hoping White will provide a boost to a linebacker corps that struggled in 2023 and was frequently targeted by opposing offenses. He is projected to start alongside Nakobe Dean, who missed 12 regular-season games with foot injuries. With Dean sidelined for much of the year, the linebacker spot turned into a rotating cast, with veteran Zach Cunningham being the closest thing to a constant. Cunningham is currently a free agent. Speed in the back end was an issue for the Eagles' defense, which finished 30th in points allowed (25.2 per game). White has 4.4-second speed in the 40 and can use it to get in the backfield, as evidenced by his 23 career sacks and 40 tackles for loss.
HOWWIIIEEEE!!!!! HE DID IT AGAIN!!!! LET'S CHECK IN ON THE HATERS:
EAT EXTRA WRESTLING MAT, CHEAH!
Actually that was a fairly nice and quick summary of current Devin White by Steven. We're going to ignore the facts Devin White was the #5 pick overall in 2019, was an immaculate gamechanger for the Super Bowl champions in 2020, and then benched in the playoffs in 2023. Nope. Not gonna do it. Positive vibes only, baby. And this is certainly a signing to feel good about.
The Eagles are in win NOW mode. This is a 1-year "Prove It" deal for a beyond athletic, potential All-World LB who is only 26-years-old and could be playing for a mega contract after this season. You know what happens if Howie doesn't go out and sign Devin White to fill the decimated Birds LB crew?
Nothing.
So, yeah. We'll take it. I'd much rather have Howie throwing all the shit at the underperforming/low risk/high value wall than the alternative. And I'll even give Howie credit - For all the Jalen Reagors over Justin Jefferson, JJAW over DK Metcalf, Danny Watkins and Marcus Smiths simply existinmg, he puts this team in a position with the cap where they can afford to make mistakes/take chances with potential superstars like Devin White.
Go Birds.
PS - I hate myself probably more than you hate me, but I have to point out the catastrophic correlations between this offseason and the one before 2011. Yup. The offseason the "Dream Team" was born and subsequently went to shit. I'm not saying undrafted DE Bryce Huff is anything like undrafted DE Jason Babin. Or CJGJ is anything like Nhamdi eating in his car alone or DRC being meh in the secondary. Or Saquan is Ronnie Brown (Even tho Barkely and Brown were both #2 picks, DeMarco Murray would be more of a similar comparison impact wise but that was Chip's reign not the Dream Team). Or Vic Fangio is Juan Castillo or old toxic ass Jim Washburn calling his DC/boss "Juanita". I don't know. It just seems like a lot of changes are being done in extremely grandiose ways. Just a thought…for now.
