Reviews Are Ruining The Best Moments In Sports And We Need To Do Something To Fix How Shitty It Is
Was this the 'right' call? Sure. I mean there were a few angles where Kam Jones still had the ball in his hand at the buzzer. But here's my problem with everything in the moment. The call on the court was a good bucket, Marquette goes crazy, MSG is loud as shit, Kyle Neptune looks confused and for 5 minutes I have to stare at the asses of three refs huddled around a monitor from 1993. You have everyone on Twitter firing off 'ohhhh I don't know Jimmm' jokes, everyone else on Twitter arguing whether or not it's good.
It sucks. We need to bring back our awesome moments. Every game-winning shot now has a delay to make sure they got it off in time. The last 2 minutes of games take an eternity and start to lose the juice because refs can review everything. Ball goes out of bounds? Let's double check! God forbid we make a call because we're gigantic pussies on power trips!
And I know, this is where I need someone with a bigger brain to fix it. I want the calls to be right. I hate when people say 'oh well, human error' on a wrong call like it can't be fixed. But mostly I want these moments back:
Imagine if we waited 5 minutes to see if Bryce Drew actually got off the shot and all of us who were kids didn't recreate the shot? Wait, that was just me? Just showing up to practice or out on the driveway and randomly running Pacer and diving on the floor was a go-to move. I just miss the moment. Instead we have the moment of waiting to see if the refs confirm the call or not and get the grossest POV porn of all time:
Why do we need that close of a shot of old dudes faces? Again, I just want to watch games, go crazy in the moment and not have that long drawn out process of seeing if it's a good shot or not. I keep saying it but reviews should be 30 seconds max. Can't get a call figured out in that time, the call on the court/field stand. There's nothing better than a buzzer beater in March and we can't lsoe that feeling.
