Woman Gives Birth On A Plane ... Ranking The 5 Coolest Forms Of Transportation To Be Born In
SKY News- A British doctor has described the "miraculous" moment he helped a woman give birth while 35,000ft in the air on a passenger jet.
Junior doctor, Hassan Khan, delivered a healthy baby girl after a fellow passenger went into labour while on a flight from Jordan to London over the weekend.
The 28-year-old was flying with a group of friends, who were all coincidentally doctors, when an announcement was issued asking for medical help.
Speaking to Sky's The UK Tonight, Dr Khan said all of his friends volunteered when the flight crew called for a doctor on board.
"Out of all of the flights that this could have possibly happened on, I would say this was a relatively good one given the number of medical staff available," he told Sky News.
Her water had broken and "she was about to deliver soon", he said, adding that "she didn't speak a word of English".
Dr Khan said: "We needed some simple equipment like towels to dry the baby as soon as it comes out and wrap it up to keep it warm. Not many airlines at all are prepared for a birth to happen in the air."
A 2019 study published in the International Society of Travel Medicine said there were only 74 infants born on commercial flights between 1929 and 2018 - 71 of whom survived the delivery.
"All were saying this is such a miracle whilst they were there to witness it," he said.
Never been pre-med and will never claim to be but absolutely amazing that someone was flying this close to their due date. Isn't the rule like stop flying at like 4 months pregnant ? There has to be some rule or law against this, we can't just be having babies born in the middle of the sky folks. It's a very dangerous process, and obviously wish the mother and child well and commend the doctors who made this happen safely.
Got me to thinking … what would be the coolest forms of transportation to be born on?
Now part of this is factoring in a variety of things. Like believability, coolness, safety and rarity. I came up with a list I feel is pretty solid. But before that let's do a few dishonorable mentions.
- Greyhound Bus
Listen I've taken Greyhound Buses back and forth to college because I had no car. It's a reliable form of transportation, economy friendly but also a high potential for skells. Like the time outside a Subway in Hartford when we stopped for gas, a guy was talking to someone else saying they were taking a bus from Buffalo to Mississippi and had what looked like a season ticket package of stubs for all the transfers they needed for the process. I got 1 phone number of a girl I happen to sit next to one time, but every other time. I prayed no one was next to me and tried to either sleep or listen to music (this was the days before wifi on buses and smarthones). To think of a child being brought into the world on a Greyhound Bus that smells like fast food and moldy ass sweat on cloth …. no thanks.
- Motorcycle
Impractical and unsafe. Feel like the people who would be on the back of … or driving for that matter … a motorcycle while pregnant needs so much help and sadly the child will too.
- Subway ….especially NYC
Gross … no explanation needed
Without further ado … here's the coolest
Honorable mention :
A duckboat during a Boston championship parade. Would have made the list but I'm not from Boston.
5 - Ice Angel
Ice Angel is an ice boat that is used in Wisconsin's Madeline Island and transports people to Bayfield when the water has become ice. The air propellers can glide over ice.
I never expected to use a form of transportation specifically in the cold, but when I learned about this I was hooked. I also feel like people who would go on these boats pregnant are bad asses, which makes telling the fun fact about yourself "I was born on an ice boat" that much cooler.
4- Yacht
Yachts are awesome … enough said. Rich people shit.
PS- Never been on a yacht.
3- Vaporetto
You know who rides Vaporetto's ? Rich people …
So chances are you become rich if you are born on these or you already are rich and you are too young to figure it out. Either way this is a balling ass way to be born. Peaceful and elegant.
2- Army Tank
Not even sure it can fit the process and space needed, but this would be badass. Almost have to name the kid Sarge, Lou (short for Lieutenant) or Cap. Badass.
1- Rocketship
Again … impossible logistically but the coolest "about me" fact ever would be to be born in a rocketship. Just as cool as it can get. You already have a spaceman/ spacewoman for a mom and dad. As cool as it gets. Good luck to Phil from Peoria,IL son of an accountant trying to top that in grade school.
