Pat Spencer is just a kid from Baltimore. And like most kids in Baltimore, Pat Spencer grew up with a lacrosse stick in his hands.

He was a really good basketball player at Boys Latin School, but an even better lacrosse player. So good, in fact, that he went on to become one of the greatest players in college lacrosse history when he went on to play at Loyola. He is the NCAA's all-time leader in assists, and won the Tewaaraton Award his senior year as the best player in college lacrosse. But after taking 4 years away from basketball to absolutely dominate the world of college lacrosse, Pat Spencer realized he still had dreams of being a certified bucket.

So after taking 4 years away from basketball, he transferred to Northwestern to join their basketball team. From Northwestern, he went over to play in Europe for a season. Came back to the good ol' US of A, bounced around in the G-League for a little while, got his call up to the NBA this year with the Warriors, and then last night…

Patrick Andrew Spencer scored the first 2 of his future 40,180+ career points in the NBA. He's now just 40,177 behind LeBron James for the all-time lead. And if this guy can take 4 years away from playing basketball, and then still go on to get buckets in the NBA? Well then this man is capable of anything.

When you watch the NCAA Tournament later today, just remember how many great basketball players you see out on that floor. And then realize that the majority of them will never get a chance to score in an NBA game. For so many of them, this is it for their career. Pat Spencer was a lacrosse player, and now he's scoring in the best basketball league on the planet. But that's just what lacrosse players do. This sport pumps out the best athletes who can easily transition to any other sport. An elite game for elite humans.
