The Start Times For This Year's Sweet 16 Games Are Absolutely Insane

I'm sorry, what the fuck is this? Are we trying to make sure viewers in Hawaii have the best possible viewing experience?

First of all, I knew I wasn't insane because the games are just later in general. Last year, Sweet Sixteen games tipped at 6:30 and 7:15 ET, with the other two games afterwards. That still gives you one game starting at about 9:45, but it is what it is. The difference, however, was that the games in the Eastern time zone started at 6:30 and those in Central or Pacific started afterwards. Now we've moved the games later AND put the ones in Eastern time after those being played in Los Angeles and Dallas. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

After Zach Edey gets sent to the free throw line 17 times against Gonzaga, Tennessee-Creighton will tip off at about 10:30 ET. I'm thankfully back in God's Time Zone so it won't be quite as bad, but that's insanity no matter where you live. If that game goes to overtime, those players are deciding an Elite Eight berth at 1:00 in the morning.

They've always done this bullshit with the national championship game, but there's no excuse for this schedule on the second weekend. I look forward to waking up on Friday and finding out who won the Illinois-Iowa State game.
