Dave Portnoy Has Countered Ice Cube's $5 Million Offer To Caitlin Clark With A $10 Million Offer To Play For The Barstool Intramural Team
So I blogged earlier this morning that Ice Cube offered Caitlin Clark $5 million to play 10 games in his 3-on-3 league, mentioning that regardless of how much money she's making from sponsorships and NIL deals, there's not an easier way to make $5,000,000 than to play 3-on-3 basketball. Even when washed up celebrities do those boxing matches to get a quick buck, they still have to train and at least take a couple punches. But this? Caitlin Clark is literally going to be playing basketball anyways, so why not get five million dollars to do it?
Scratch that $5 million line. The ante has been upped by none other than the boss man himself:
Oh shit, we need to update the counter. With a starting base salary in the WNBA for the #1 overall pick of $76,535, it would take Caitlin Clark approximately 131 years to earn this $10,000,000 that Dave is offering.
....and I don't think the bidding is over just yet. Will Ice Cube counter? What anyone else like to get into the mix? I'd like to know what Dave's max is. Who's got 15? Can I get a 20? I bet we could get 50 if we opened it up to all the billionaires with too much money on their hands. And at the end of the day, Caitlin Clark might fuck around and never have to play a game of basketball ever again (after whatever short-term commitment she agrees to is completed).
If Barstool did get Clark though, I think we'd need to open up this intramural team to both offices, enter the squad into a high level league, and become Box Office television. How much does Dave need to offer to get Pat Bev to leave the Bucks? Because this team would be ELITE....
PG: Pat Bev
SG: Caitlin Clark
SF: Mark Titus
PF: Nick Mulcahy
C: Dana Beers
Throw in the Golhke hire that's been rumored, and we may trot out a team that could win the G League, let alone an intramural league. I'd still let Klemmer be the head coach, but I'd love to be on his staff. And while I'm sure there's people that can score the ball still in Free Agency, adding Clark and Titus means that the "No Threes" rule would have to be amended, and we'd no longer need to fill a void for scoring. Maybe Bosco could be first off the bench, taking charges and making sure the refs are in the proper Lead & Trail positions.
I'm convinced this team would garner higher ratings than current NBA regular season games, and it would probably make everyone's lives around here easier, too. Like, I'm pretty sure the 41 Free Throw Challenge would've taken about 15 minutes if we lined up Titus, Caitlin, Mantis, Pat Bev, and the New Hampshire guy. Barstool may go from Media Conglomerate to basketball organization.
* All jokes aside, Caitlin has to accept this, right? Playing one season for the Barstool Intramural team is absolutely worth $10,000,000. Although if Dave truly is offering $10,000,000, we should probably sell a few more shirts.
