It's Insane How Quickly A Good Shot To The Liver Can Completely Disable A Fighter

We're about to head off to Lincoln Financial Field for Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, but I just had to share the knockout that opened the UFC card in Vegas today to make the point in my headline: it's insane how quickly a good shot to the liver can completely disable a fighter.

I mean - that knee didn't even look that bad, did it?! Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't volunteer to take one for any less than $10,000 - but it wasn't like Nora Cornolle threw some vicious knee strike at 100mph that looked like a Mortal Kombat fatality! It was just perfectly placed and hit the liver of Melissa Mullins like an off switch.

As soon as it landed, the fight was basically over. Unfortunately, though - Mullins took a couple head kicks on the way down as Cornolle tee'd off on someone whose batteries were dead, and the finish came seconds later. I've said it before and I'll say it again - few things in combat sports seem as bad as a liver shot KO.

P.S. There's a Jon Jones situation unfolding right now that seems so predictably Jon Jones it hurts (he allegedly drunkenly threatened the life of a drug testing agent when she recently came to his house), but he is refuting it with video evidence, and it's a turning into a whole big thing....

Here is my statement on the situation for now: I will not let Jon Jones ruin my WrestleMania weekend. He tried to ruin my birthday a few years back when he failed a drug test right before UFC 200, and now he's coming for my Christmas: WrestleMania. I won't let it happen.

We're onto Cody Rhodes. We're onto finishing the story. UFC gets my attention for 90% of my weekends per year - but WWE always gets this one. We will discuss this a ton on Monday, however, when Tom Aspinall comes into the Barstool NYC HQ for an exclusive interview.

I obviously won't be able to watch the rest of this UFC card until tomorrow morning, so make sure to follow JackMac/Big Ev/Spinnin Backfist social extraordinaire Lee for picks and fight talk! But if you're in the market for fake fight talk - I'm your guy.
