Somehow Real: The Heisman Trophy Tweeted Out a Graphic Saying It 'Mourns' the Passing of O.J. Simpson
Oh man, this is incredible. I would pay very good money to hear the conversation that took place amongst the decision makers at the Heisman Trust that led to this going out. This is up there with some of the GOATs of insane social graphics.
What was the best case scenario for the Heisman Trophy here? Was anyone really clamoring for the trophy O.J. won more than 50 years ago to release a statement on his death? The most prestigious award in college football put out a real version of this meme:
And as nearly every reply to the Heisman's tweet will remind you, this is an award that was taken from Reggie Bush because he got some money to play at USC. It seems like you either have to hold off on the O.J. Simpson graphic or give Bush his trophy back, but you can't have both.
I actually wanted the title of Tate's blog to be something like 'Heisman Trophy Winner and Pro Football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson Dead at 76' but we ended up getting that headline from the actual Heisman Trophy. What a world.
