AP Poll Voter Nick Alvarez Should Go to Prison for His Final Ballot of the College Basketball Season
I'm in genuine awe of this AP Poll ballot. I went to Nick Alvarez's Twitter page to make sure he didn't have a post about creating this ballot to send some sort of message about how stupid the voting process is or something and he does not, so I'm left to assume this is him being serious.
There are so many things on here that are legitimately unbelievable, I don't even know where to start. It's truly the worst poll I've ever seen in college basketball or football. Let's just go down the list in chronological order, I guess.
- Duke was middling for most of the season and its only decent win in the entire postseason came against a team which lost its best player.
- There's a legitimate case for Kansas to not be included in the final Top 25 at all and Nick somehow has the Jayhawks at No. 4.
- Purdue was clearly the second-best team in college basketball this year, yet is ranked No. 8 behind a Gonzaga team it beat twice and eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.
- No. 13 Miami is the first of four teams with losing records included, because why the hell not?
- Tennessee, the third- or fourth-best team in the country this season is down at No. 18, six spots below Creighton, which it beat in the Sweet Sixteen.
- NC State, which beat No. 2 (according to Alvarez) Duke in the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, is left off the ballot completely in favor of teams like Arkansas and Maryland.
The only thing I've been possibly able to figure after looking at it a little more is this is possibly Nick's preseason 2025 poll? But even if that's the case, you are far too stupid to be an AP Poll voter — which is a shockingly low bar to clear — if you think you're submitting next season's poll the day after the national title game.
Take this guy's vote away and shame him publicly.
