We're All Doomed: Victor Wembanyama Suggests He Plans On Adding Some Of Kevin Durant's Game To His Arsenal This Summer

Year 1 of the Victor Wembayama Experience wasn't just as advertised, it was honestly way better than anyone could have imagined. Every once in a while you get the label of "best prospect since LeBron" or "the greatest basketball prospect ever" and more often than not the reality doesn't quite match the hype. At the very least, it usually takes some time for that hype to translate onto an NBA court.

What was incredible about Wemby's first year was the fact that since the second he stepped onto an NBA court, all of the hype was immediately validated. Stuff that seemed crazy as we headed into the Draft all of a sudden made sense. Is it possible that even with his insane hype, we all were actually underselling it? Is it fair to say that Wemby exceeded those expectations even though they were so high it was suggested that if he had HAKEEM OLAJUWON'S career it would be a failure?

I dunno, see for yourself

What made his season so ridiculous is the fact that after every single one of his historic performances (and there were a shit ton), you repeatedly had to remind yourself that this is the worst Victor Wembanyama will ever be. This is his baseline to which the rest of his career will be built off of, and frankly it was one of the more insane rookie seasons we've ever seen. Even if he doesn't add a single thing to his game, just imagine what things look like after a year or two in an NBA program in terms of strength training. Remember how Giannis' body changed? Now imagine something like that happening to Wemby.

But unfortunately for the rest of us, Wemby isn't only going to be adding strength and muscle to his frame. He's also going to be adding to his arsenal, and we know what happens when he's using all his weapons

Well, what happens when one of those weapons is something he takes from Kevin Durant? You know, only one of if not the greatest scorer of this current era. From the sounds of it, that's the plan

given their size and skillset, I'd say KD is a perfect player for Wemby to steal from and mold his game after. Not only is Wemby physically gifted, just hearing him talk about this stuff you can tell he's also a student of the game, which as a Spurs fan would have me on cloud nine. I'm not sure the rest of us are ready for a world where Wemby is able to work off ball and get separation without dribbling like KD does. That's part of why watching KD is so much fun. He gets to where he wants when he wants and he has a counter for everything. Teams are going to be putting so much focus and energy into denying Wemby the ball or making things tough for him defensively, so borrowing something like this from KD is a fantastic decision that frankly should terrify the rest of us even more.

Remember, Wemby is also working on the Jamal Crawford behind the back shake and bake

which for younger stoolies out there who might not remember how lethal this thing was, it's a devastating move

and you know what? I have zero doubt Wemby will unleash this move at some point next season and it's going to break the internet (again). He already has guard-level handles considering we just saw him unload a Shammgod with ease, so we're rapidly approaching a point where there may simply not be a defense that exists that limits Wemby. You might just have to pray he misses or something, because if he's going to be getting open like KD, can already score from all 3 levels, all while being able break you down off the dribble I'm not sure what the hell anyone can do.

Again, this is all coming after Year 1. What do we think things look like after say….Year 3? Right around then is when you typically see the best of the best take that monster Year 3 leap, and considering Wemby's starting point is 21.4/10.6/3.9/1.2/3.6 on 46/32% splits, what the hell does his Year 3 leap even look like??

As much hype as there was surrounding Year 1 Wemby, given what we saw and then hearing about the things he's going to be working on over the summer, I can't help but be even more excited for Year 2 Wemby. All the Spurs need to do is somehow find a way to get themselves a point guard upgrade (Trae Young???) and they'll be off and running.
