One Of Us: Sixth Round Pick Patrick McMorris Hung Up On The Dolphins When They Called To Draft Him Thinking It Was A Spam Call

Spam calls are a problem that everyone deals with. They are impossible to get away from and we all have those stretches where it seems like you get 2-3 a day for a week straight. Then you finally got some peace, you think you're out of the woods and don't have to deal with them anymore. Bam, they pick up again. This is true for NFL Draft picks, bloggers and every other person in the world. Doesn't matter what type of phone you have, your plan or anything else like that. Spam calls are everywhere and it's time to put a stop to them.

Now it's important to note he picked up. This wasn't an ignore, this was him answering, silence and then hanging up. Imagine sitting there waiting to get drafted, you think you finally got the call and it's just silence. That's gotta be a worse feeling than in the 90s when you called that girl you liked and her dad picked up the phone. Instant panic. You may have even hung up and hoped they didn't have caller ID. The obvious difference here is we're talking about major money at play.

It's 2024, there's gotta be better protocols in place. I'm pretty sure if a real place calls me you'll get the city and maybe name of the place. Teams gotta start giving players a heads up and their draft room number to save. Always cracks me up seeing the videos of these guys calling draft picks on a landline phone. I hope that never changes. Brings me back to the good old days of *67 and worrying about disconnecting from the Internet.

He still got drafted by the Dolphins, but consider this a good lesson to teams everywhere. Speak right away. You gotta be quick when someone picks up. Can't just sit there quiet for a few seconds, not when we live in the age of spam calls. We live in a world where you get calls from numbers that look identical to yours and you gotta be quick to hit ignore. Pray there's not a voicemail. And if you accidentally pick up? Woof. Dealing with some automated message about your car warranty. Time to put an end to it!

Tough go all around for the Dolphins and phones.
