Anthony "Lionheart" Smith Silences The Brazilian Crowd With A Huge Upset Over Vitor Petrino
Three fights into the UFC 301 card, and we've got three quick finishes!
Anthony "Lionheart" Smith just silenced the Brazilian crowd by choking out the undefeated Vitor Petrino in the very first round, grabbing a quick guillotine off a sloppy takedown attempt! Smith was a huge underdog coming into this fight (he's the first underdog to win tonight, actually) and many were writing him off and trying to force him into retirement before tonight. I can't imagine how good it must've felt to be the crafty vet and sneak out an easy win in that moment. I'm not exaggerating when I saw he silenced the crowd, either - you could hear a pin drop after that (double) tap. It was pretty wild.
Smith went right to the commentary booth and started talking about getting the title, and then Bruce Buffer unfortunately screwed up the post-fight announcement like I've never heard him screw up before....
Just goes to show ya - even the greatest of all time have their faults! He's due for one mess up every thirty years!
Jose Aldo's return fight up next!
