Sports City Equinox-ious (Minneapolis - May 13, 2021)

I hate to do this to Minnesota sports fans right after the up-and-coming Timberwolves reliquished home court advantage in back-to-back home losses. But you all are next in the Sports Equinox-ious calendar.

The idea here is simple. Find a date in sports history in which a city had at least three big-4 teams play that all shit the bed. I have the master list with a quantified score on how bad teams lost from all sports played and plan on dropping these little reminders every now and again on equinox-ious anniversaries. We started last month by exploring a rough one for Boston on April 23, 2013. Today we go from possibly the ruddest people on the face of the earth to the most polite.

Minneapolis. May 13th, 2021.

The good news for Minnesota is this stinker of a night came in peak COVID meaning none of these games were playoff losses as would usually be the case for NBA or NHL games in mid May. And honestly, aside from the Wild getting shellacked 7-3, these don't seem like that bad of losses.

But the Blues taming the Wild is what killed Minnesota here just three years ago today on the equinox-ious scale. 7-3 losses happen every blue moon, but they happen. Just not usually when a team starts off red hot with a 3-0 lead after the first period. Or when two other major sports teams play the same night also lose. Combined, this registerd as a night worse than 95.2% of any night in which three big-four teams played for a given city. Pretty much all because of the Wild giving up 7 goals. You can thank Kaapo Kahkonen for giving up all seven on just 27 shots for a 74% save percentage. Yikes.

That's it really for this one. Gotta think Minnesota fans did regretable things after this stinker of a night. Something to the effect of not petting their dog that long before bed or only saying goodby three times during phone conversations with people they see everyday. But at least last night didn't plant a seed for a future equinox-ious blog as the Twins won 5-1 vs the Blue Jays and the Wild didn't bother to attend the playoffs! So, there's that.

@Stathole

Missed the first sports equinox-ious? Here was a MUCH worse day at the sports office for the city of Boston.
