Francis Has Changed The Game Of Roofball

We played Roofball on Thursday at an offsite location. The memo was sent out on our group text that practicing would not be allowed until everyone was together and it would be equal for everyone. This was important as only about half of us had played roofball before and this was a new arena so to speak.

We were in Joliet, IL at a Stoolie named Cajun Mike's house. The roof was very different than last year and unlike the New Jersey tournament, arounds would be a key factor in the competition today.

We were given five minutes as a group of three to warm up. I was in the first group, which I knew would be a massive disadvantage. Whoever figured out how to do an around first would have a big leg up on the competition. I tried spinning it almost like a rugby throw left to right, but couldn't get the technique down. PFT and Cajun Mike couldn't get an around confidently around so we went for pings. Boy were we wrong.

With two throws left in the round, Cajun Mike hit two straight arounds and the game done changed. Nick Cannon, aka Nick Turani then hit (including warmups), seven arounds in a row and we were off running.

And while all the right handed throwers aimed just to the left of the giant high noon bottle, there was one man who chose to do things differently.

Francis is a Harvard educated man. He owned a tutoring business that he later sold. He is a very smart person. He figured out the spin to get an around and maintain the catch for an 11 point throw easily. That being said, it looked pussy as hell. It is roofball's version of the granny shot. But Francis is laughing all the way to the bank with his $1,000 cash prize after this unbelievable finish.

Catch the full Yak above and long live roofball!
