Eminem Dropped The First Single from His Forthcoming Album, “The Death of Slim Shady,” Titled 'Houdini' And It’s A Call Back To The Old Days

So hot off the heels of announcing this semi-surprise new album last month while Detroit hosted the NFL Draft, titled, The Death of Slim Shady, Eminem has released his first single off of the album, “Houdini”.

It’s far from his best work, but it’s also far from his worst. (Looking at you Relapse).

The song actually finds him reaching wayyyy back into the bag of tricks that made him so famous- saying crazy and controversial shit.

Everybody is hung up on the Meghan The Stallion line-

If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me
Would I really have a shot at a feat?

But I personally liked these better-

My shit may not be age-appropriate
But I will hit an 8-year-old in the face with a participation trophy
'Cause I have zero doubts, that this whole world's 'bout to turn into some girl scouts
That censorship bureau's out to shut me down

And the bridge

Some times I wonder what the old me'd say (If what?)
If he could see the way shitt is today (Look at this shit, man)
He'd probably say that everything is gay (Like happy)
What's my name? What's my name? (Slim Shady)

and from the 3rd verse

In the coupe, leanin' back my seat (What?)
Bumpin' R. Kelly's favorite group, the Black Eyed Peas (Guy pees)
In my Air Max 90s, white Tees, walkin' parental advisory
My transgender cat's Siamese, identifies as Black, but acts Chinese

All in all, a decent debut single.

Especially considering we got the fire Steve Miller Band sample of “Abracadabra”.

And his wordplay skills are still at an elite level. Especially considering today’s competition.

Hopefully he’s saving the serious heat for us later- the real Dre beats and the 50 Cent collabs that 50 confirmed not too long ago.

P.s. - I love that we got some throwback Paul Rosenberg and Marshall shit talking back and forth going on this. Hopefully it’s full album. And hopefully we see a return of Ken Kaniff from Connecticut as well.
