Nobody Had A Better View Of Rory McIlroy's Collapse At Pinehurst Than Smylie Kaufman

On today's Pardon My Take... SMYLIE KAUFMAN! The former PGA TOUR player and current golf broadcaster for NBC joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show from Pinehurst after an incredible US Open, and gave us a breakdown of what he witnessed while following the last two groups on Sunday, Rory's putts, and more.

Nobody had a better seat to Rory's unfortunate collapse on Sunday at the US Open than Smylie Kaufman himself. He was covering all of the action from inside the ropes and was able to take in every little detail of the final round from Rory, Bryson, and everyone else who was in the mix down the stretch. So, our guys asked Smylie what his thoughts were on those two missed putts on the 16th and 18th hole. Here is what Kaufman had to say:

The putt on 16 to save par was just 2 feet, 6 inches. When Rory missed that putt, golf statistician and guru Justin Ray tweeted this out...

Shocking is an understatement. Just insane. You have one of the best players in the world missing from distances that we never thought were possible for people like him.

And then fast forward to the 18th hole to save par, to put some real pressure on Bryson (who was trying to overcome a very tough tee shot to the left), Rory had 3 feet, 9 inches… another miss. That left his final four holes looking like this:

Insane. Golf is the best, but it is also the worst. A rollercoaster where the downs stick with you a lot longer than the ups do. Rory will get that next major soon. He still feels good about the future of his game, via Notes App:
