Gunnar Henderson Announced Live On Sunday Night Baseball That He's Participating In The Home Run Derby

No surprise here as the MVP at the mid-way point of the season, Gunnar Henderson, announced live during Sunday Night Baseball that he'll be participating in the Home Run Derby in Texas this month during the All-Star Week festivities. Second most home runs in baseball with 26, of course he was going to participate. He's the best all-around player in baseball to this point on a first place team, MLB needed this guy in the derby. Oh, and he also just turned 23. We watched him go from a Rookie of the Year winner to a bonafide superstar in a year, what a rise for this kid.

He's going to put on a show in Texas too, I just know it. Super smooth swing, nice lefty power stroke and it's not like it's a massive ballpark in Texas where he'll have to really exert some effort to put balls over the wall. He'll put up some damn good numbers and probably will be the favorite to win it all. It was also cool that he announced it live during the 3rd inning while mic'd up and talking with the Sunday Night Baseball guys in the booth, we all knew it was coming but it's cool that he's been given the chance and jumped at it. He's having an incredible year and has a chance to become the youngest derby winner ever, he just turned 23 so he's practically still a baby.

Even though he's 23 he still has quite a few memorable tape measure shots under his belt. He'll shock you with his power, if you've never seen him hit before you will be in for a real treat.

Buckle up and get ready for a show. We don't know the rest of the participants yet but I assume Adolis Garcia will be in there as well. Regardless of who else is in the derby it should be an awesome event. Nothing like the HR Derby on a hot summer night, especially when your team's superstar is sending balls flying through the air. Gunnar will put on a show.
