I Am Now Officially A Grill Master
I entered a very unfamiliar world today. One I've been dancing around for months. I am at a rental house with my in-laws and I volunteered to make this awesome smashed potato salad for tonight I saw on instagram. We had some leftover hot dogs and burgers from the week and I thought my brother in-law, Joe would take care of that. He grilled earlier this week and crushed it.
When I awoke this morning, I found out Joe was leaving today to get the family dog and had classes tonight. I have always made burgers (to many rave reviews from my nuclear family) in the oven. But after getting some pushback on oven burgers tonight, I was told to throw them on the grill. *Not everyone was familiar with my plight. Not knowing how to grill and all.
Not wanting to seem like a major bitch I said, "sure". And right then and there I jumped into the deep end. I had to make six cheeseburgers and 7 hot dogs. I wasn't sure it started great either. *I was aware it was a propane grill. Not being a grill guy yet, I got that and charcoal mixed up in my head. I WAS IN A RUSH!
There was an uncomfortable amount of smoke coming out of this thing 90 seconds in. I closed the lid (thanks Chef Donny for that tip from our session earlier this summer). I left the burgers in there for about 4 minutes. I didn't set a timer cause I'm tougher than a timer and I also hate having to follow directions.
I flipped them and left them on for about 4 more minutes before putting cheese on for a minute and taking them off.
Next up were the seven hot dogs.
Those seemed easy! But I was a little worried after I saw this one.
After a few minutes, plated those and I think everything looks good!
Served a hot dog to each of my kids and then burgers and dogs to the adults. The reviews were fairly positive. Though I admitted to never grilling before which may have softened the blow.
The commenters were ruthless.
But then my work family came to my aid like the Ultimate Warrior coming to save Hulk Hogan in Wrestlemania VIII
Thank you to everyone that followed that journey. Tonight was several months in the making. Here were my thoughts on grilling as a whole.
- Not too hard
- I did know it was propane, not charcoal but got the terms mixed up in my head
- It all happened so fast
*the burgers were not fully defrosted which likely led to the more pink coloration
- The food tasted pretty good per multiple sources
- I had fun!
