"I'll Have A Tough Time Sleeping If Saquon Goes To Philly" -- Giants Owner John Mara, Who Clearly Hasn't Gotten His 8 Hours In Months
Well well well, if it isn't a massive load of dysfunction getting aired out there by the fine folks over at HBO. This is such a beautiful scene to witness as an Eagles fan. Because while I think GM Joe Schoen has a heavy set of balls on him to stand his ground on the Saquon decision even with John Mara in the room looking like he made the biggest regret of his life by hiring that twerp--
It still shows an owner and GM who aren't even on the same book, let alone the same page.
In Dallas, you have an owner who gets overly involved in every single football decision made for that franchise. Guys aren't even allowed to take a shit in that building unless they run it by Jerry first. In Washington, you have a weasel owner who only cares about being competitive enough for the team to make money. He doesn't give a shit about championships, he just sees dollars. That's the only other way you could justify owner the Sixers, Devils, and Commanders. 3 teams with 3 fanbases that all hate each other.
Now in New York you have an owner who is starting to despise his GM. And it's only going to get worse if Saquon torches the Giants twice this upcoming season. Don't get me wrong, I think Joe Schoen is probably in the right here. Even as an Eagles fan, I'm willing to admit we are paying ridiculous money to an older running back with a CVS receipt long list of injury history. But the Eagles are in a place where overpaying for a running back makes sense to be the final piece that takes their roster over the edge. The Giants have so many more flaws on their team that overpaying for an elite running back is maybe 7th or 8th on the priority list. So I won't act like Joe Schoen is some sort of idiot for letting Saquon end up in Philly as far as the football aspect of it goes.
But that man's ass is going to so deep in the jackpot on October 20th. Being hated by your boss is one thing. But if Saquon decides to go off for 100+ yards and a touchdown against the Giants in New York? John Mara will never trust an idea that comes from Joe Schoen's brain ever again. I'm no expert in the field, but that has to be bad for business.
Go Birds.
