Thierry Henry And Patrick Vieria Are The Latest Names Rumored To Land The USMNT Job, Time To Start Figuring Out What The Hell Is Real

Another day and more rumored names for the US job. This time it's two former French stars - Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieria. Look, at some point we gotta figure out who is a real candidate, who actually wants the job, who is using this for leverage. No shot Henry and Viera are using this for leverage. In fact Vieira just left his club team.

Henry is currently getting ready to coach France in the Olympics. So neither fall into that category of use the US for leverage, get the England job or something like that. On the flip side, Vieria has been pretty open and vocal about his interest in the US job for over a year now. I don't know if it's because he wants the guarantee to coach in the World Cup, the fact he sees some talent or just wants the job. Whatever, he seems real. The question is do we want him?

Henry is way more unknown. He managed Monaco and Montreal Impact while he also was an assistant for Belgium before returning home and taking over the France U-21 team and Olympic team. I would lean way more into taking Thierry Henry before Patrick Vieria. I know he struggled at Monaco, but he's had success at the international level, he wants the US job and while he wouldn't be option 1 for me, he can at least see talent in the guys. People would listen to him, at least I'd assume so.

Only good thing is this report is out there:

We'll see if it comes true - Steve Cherundolo is still a popular pick. But if Crocker is going outside the MLS world and can land a European guy to take over, it's a step in the right direction. I still think Crocker and Cone need to be gone, but this helps Crocker, a little bit. All I know is I want a decision soon. I know there's 'time' but there's also not. We have matches in the fall, get a guy in before then, get the staff figured out and let him start figuring out how he wants the team to look. Two years until the World Cup. That's not a ton of time. We should have someone hired right after the Olympics.
