Xander Schauffele Is Your Champion Golfer Of The Year - Plays Lights Out, Wins The Open, Has One Hell Of A Major Season
So much for the guy who can't win the big one. You want to talk about Valhalla being a joke and winning that shooting what he did? Well, what now? The guy can play. I don't know what else to say. A lot of talk throughout the years about how Cantlay was better or how he would be the guy who couldn't win the big one. He's got 2 this year and finished the major season as top-10 in all four. Hell that's downplaying it, he was top-8 in all four majors.
The dude was lights out. 34 on the way out, coming in with 4-under? Dude just knows how to play. Let's take a break to watch shots:
It's not like guys didn't play well. The leaderboard was under par for the most part. Xander just made putts, stayed out of trouble and scrambled. Welcome to The Open. It was one hell of an Open too. Bad weather, terrible conditions, course playing hard and then a Sunday for guys to make shots. Brutal for Shane Lowry and that 40 yesterday but nothing to say would negate what Xander did. He's the Champion Golfer of the year. He won two different types of majors. He got rid of the fact he can't win.
Also shout out America. Swept the majors for the first time since 1982. Now win the Ryder Cup. Had to throw that out there. Right now this is about Xander.
