Braves Minor Leaguer Francisco Vicioso Has Pitched 3 Innings With 28 Walks, 35 Wild Pitches and 20 Earned Runs
The Braves' big league rotation is pretty stacked with the trio of Chris Sale, Max Fried and Reynaldo Lopez, but the team's Dominican Summer League affiliate is still working out some stuff with 19-year-old Francisco Vicioso.
There are the yips and then there is whatever the hell causes one to throw 35 wild pitches in three innings en route to 28 walks and 20 earned runs. Has this guy ever thrown a baseball before waltzing into the Braves' organization? Is his little brother going to be an awesome prospect or something?
Maybe he actually has great stuff and the Braves think he can turn into something if he develops a modicum of command. I don't know if that's actually possible, but I'd imagine the team has virtually or literally no money tied up in this guy, so throw him out there and see what he can do, I guess.
The one thing you can absolutely say about this kid is there is not one batter in the Dominican Summer league who wants to be at the plate when he's on the bump. That has to count for something. And hey, maybe the Braves find a way to turn this guy into the real-life Rick Vaughn.
