Mayhem To Start The Olympics: Morocco Fans Thought They Got Screwed So They Stormed The Field, Set Off Firecrackers And Threw Bottles At Argentina Players

I don't know why we can't have Olympic sports start after the opening ceremony outside of cramming stuff together for TV to get the optimal time slots for Opening and Closing ceremonies, but here we are. Soccer and rugby starting today and we already have mayhem. Not just the Canadian women's team kicking coaches out for spying:

No, no I'm talking about Morocco vs Argentina on the men's side. You already have all the French hating Argentina for the derogatory song/chant they had after Copa America. They booed the hell out of Argentina's National Anthem. But even that didn't compare to the end of the match. It started with 15 minutes of extra time. Ref declared Morocco wasted too much time, sure, that makes sense. Still not sure why we can't just have a normal clock in soccer instead of refs making up how much time there is.

This is where Argentina scores basically at the death to tie it.

Again, not the whole story. This tweet lays it out pretty good:

Don't tell Morocco fans that. They decided to take matters into their own hands and storm the field, throw bottles, set off firecrackers. You have people screaming robbery.

Fellas, you still got a tie! Sure, you want a win, but you're alive. This is just match 1. Take it down a notch. I get you're pissed, but let's wait to rush the field until you're eliminated. Now what happens if you lose the next match? Can't rush the field again, you already used that once. Can't go back to the well. Hot start to the Olympics though. Just what you want on day 1, a little mayhem.

UPDATE: Right as this blog was scheduled to publish they decided to play 3 more minutes of this after an hour-ish delay in an empty stadium. Oh and they took away the goal? Mayhem anyway you look at it.

SECOND UPDATE: You know, because of the hours of delay. Morocco won 2-1. So to recap, fans invaded the field, threw a bunch of shit, had a huge delay only for Argentina's goal to be reviewed and switched to offside. Weirdest game I can remember.
